William S. Yellow Robe, Jr. is an Assiniboine playwright, director, poet, actor, writer, and educator from the Fort Peck Indian Reservation, located in northeastern Montana. He has written more than forty-five plays. Yellow Robe is a recipient of the "First Nations Book Award for Drama," the first playwright to receive a Princess Grace Foundation Theater Fellowship, and the first Native American playwright to receive a Jerome Fellowship from the Minneapolis Playwrights' Center. His plays have appeared at the Public Theater/NY Shakespeare Festival, Seattle Group Theater, American Conservatory Theater, the Mark Taper Forum, and elsewhere. He is a member of the Penumbra Theater Company of St. Paul, Minnesota, Ensemble Studio Theater in New York, and the Board of Advisors for Red Eagle Soaring Theater Company (a Native youth theater company) of Seattle, Washington.

Summer ARTS Day Camps at RVYT - for ages 5 to 11!













Calling all Rainier Valley youth - we have RVYT's trademark blending of performing and visual arts Camps, with an exciting focus on Native American cultures of the Northwest (including Alaska!)

Come play, act, dance, move, make art and explore Native American cultures with us!


July 6-10 (9am -12pm)

Trickster Tales & Legends (ages 5-7) We'll explore stories of Raven, Coyote and other Trickster tales from Native American legends - Sondra Simone Segundo (Haida) will join Teaching Artist Maria Glanz to share stories, help teach a Raven dance and lead us in mask-making. Cost: $130

July 13-17 (9am -12pm)

Fishy Tales: Undersea Adventures! (ages 5-7) Sondra Simone Segundo (Haida) and Maria Glanz will take students on a dive into the worlds of orcas, fish, dolphins, turtles and more, as we look at underwater tales from Native American cultures. Emphasis on acting, movement, art and music. Cost: $130

July 20-24 (9am -2pm)

Spooky Stories of the Pacific Northwest: for kids who think scary is fun (ages 8-11) For brave actors and creators, we'll explore stories featuring scary legends and ferocious creatures (and sometimes gentle hearts), and we'll create our own play to perform. Emphasis on acting, play construction, movement and mask-making. Longtime RVYT favorite Teaching Artist Amber Wolfe returns, joined by Annalisa Moore. Cost: $240
